Mobile Deposit FAQ

Mobile Deposit is a simple, smart, secure service that allows you to deposit checks from home or on the go. Deposit checks directly into any of your Morehead Community FCU deposit accounts using MCFCU’s Mobile App!

What do I need?

Mobile Banking/Mobile Deposit requires an Internet Banking User ID and Password. You must have logged into Internet Banking at least once and completed the registration process in order to login and use the mobile App.

How do I know if I’m approved for Mobile Deposit?

If you are approved for Mobile Deposit, you will no longer see the Mobile Deposit request button in Internet Banking and the Deposit Check button will be available for use in the MCFCU app.

How do I activate Mobile Deposit?

You must log into Internet Banking and click on Mobile Deposit button within the left-side set of buttons. You will be presented with a Remote Check Deposit Terms and Conditions link to review the terms and a button to confirm acceptance. If approved, you will have mobile access to the “Deposit Check” feature of the app.

What are the software and hardware requirements for this service? The current hardware and software  requirements  are  listed  below and  are  subject  to  change  without  notification.

  • Compatible with iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch with iOS 7.0 or later.
  • Compatible devices with Android 2.3.3 or later.

You must have an Internet Banking User ID and Password.

How secure is Mobile Deposit?

Mobile Deposit of checks via your smartphone offers the same security that you have with Online Banking. For added protection, the images of your checks are stored securely at the credit union and not on your mobile phone.

What types of checks are accepted with Mobile Deposit?

Checks must be from U.S. institutions and in U.S. dollars. General items that are accepted are:

  • Personal checks
  • Business checks
  • Government/Treasury checks
  • Cashier’s checks

What types of checks are not accepted with Mobile Deposit?

  • Checks drawn on financial institutions located outside the U.S.
  • Money Orders
  • Traveler’s Checks
  • Checks payable to an individual not on the account
  • Checks drawn on your account at MCFCU
  • Checks that contain evidence of alteration
  • Checks made payable to “cash”
  • Checks that you know or suspect are fraudulent
  • Checks that were previously converted to a substitute check.
  • Checks that were previously deposited but returned unpaid.
  • Stale dated checks (Generally this is more than 6 months old, but may be less if indicated on the front of the check).

Can I make mobile deposits to my savings accounts with MCFCU?

Yes, you may make mobile deposits to any of your checking and savings accounts at MCFCU. Available accounts are limited to accounts available with your Internet Banking User ID.

When are funds available?

Deposits are subject to verification and follow the availability requirements outlined in your Account Disclosures under the heading “Your Ability to Withdraw Funds at MCFCU”. Checks received prior to the cutoff time of 3 p.m., on business days, will be processed on the same day. Checks deposited after the 3 p.m. cutoff will be posted on the following business day. Deposits will be available after they have been reviewed and posted to your account. Once the deposit has been received you’ll be able to view the pending transaction on your mobile phone under “View Holds” of the account specified in the deposit. Once holds are released, the funds are available for use.

What happens if there is an issue with the deposit?

Once you’ve made your deposit, you’ll receive a confirmation number within the mobile app. If issues arise that result in your deposit not being processed or delayed, or should we determine that we cannot process your transaction, you will see a negative adjustment on your account for the amount of the deposit. If you have questions regarding a mobile deposit, please call the Credit Union.

What are my limits with Mobile Deposit?

There is a daily limit of $5,000.00 and a maximum single item deposit of $5,000.00 when using Mobile Deposit.

Are there any fees?

There is no fee from MCFCU for using this service, but we recommend that you check with your cellular service provider to see if data rates apply.

When I take a picture of the check, do I need to capture the whole check in my picture, or is it okay to just capture the amount?

The whole check must be captured. The app will prompt you to take a photo of the front and the back of each check that you deposit. The image of the check must be legible; if the quality of the image is poor, it will not be processed.

What do I do with the paper checks after I’ve made my Mobile Deposit?

Once you’ve deposited the check successfully, you should keep the check in a safe place for 30 days. After 30 days, and after you’ve confirmed the deposited funds have been applied to your account correctly, destroy the check by shredding it or mark it “VOID”.
